News from the Shop
Hey y’all,
We’ve got a few fun call to actions for you this month. We want you to ride your bike and do some good for our community while riding!
First, join us this Saturday for Macon’s Big Bike Ride. The work that Bike Walk Macon does is extremely important for the future of Macon and joining this ride is an excellent way to support their efforts and the vision for a Macon with more trails and safe places to ride.
Second, if you have some non-perishable food to spare, we are accepting donations at Bike Tech for the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank. The goal is to fill the box. So if you have plans to swing by the shop, bring food with you. Or a much more fun way to donate is to join us on the 13th for Cranksgiving!
Third, unfortunately Journey Ride is not happening this year, so in lieu of the ride, the Bike Tech team has decided to redirect a portion of our sales in November to Central Georgia Autism. Journey Ride is one of CGA’s biggest fundraisers so you can help us keep the important work they are doing going. So shop at Bike Tech this month and you’ll be helping to support our friends at Central Georgia Autism.
More information on all of this below, keep reading…
For any parents or folks with kids who are considering a bike for Christmas we’re back in a situation of short supply (similar to Covid times). I know everyone wants you to shop early, and in this case, we’re quite serious. Bikes are in stock and arriving each week, but moving faster than we anticipated. We expect that quality 24″ youth bikes will be completely out of stock by the end of the month (industry wide, all brands) and others will fall short. There are exceptions, and those are quite expensive (or so poorly made and cheap, you wouldn’t want your kid riding them). If you have questions or need advice on sizing, reach out, we are thrilled to help.
With all that said, the Bike Tech team is grateful for you and is ready to help keep you riding. Bring your bike in for a tune-up, and we’ll get you “race ready” and Lou loves to say. New parts and accessories arrive weekly, so if you’re looking for something specific, check with us first (we’re always happy to help with special orders).
Before we wrap up, don’t forget: follow along on Facebook, Instagram, and Strava, and don’t miss our Crank to Coffee ride every Saturday. Whether it’s in the shop or on the trail, thanks for being part of the Bike Tech crew.
– Bobby, Lou, Jeff, Rod & Chris

Schedule a Chain Waxing Appointment
Ready to ride smoother, cleaner, and with better efficiency? Our new chain-waxing service gives your bike a nearly silent, ultra-slick drivetrain that reduces friction (saving 2–8 watts), keeps you cleaner, and extends the life of expensive drivetrain parts. After one full clean and immersion wax, all it takes is a quick wipe between services—less mess, less cost, and more miles from every chain.
Jeff has been perfecting the art of chain waxing over the last few months and has been excited about the results. If you reach out ahead of time, we’ll work you into the schedule so downtime will be minimal. Because of the process, plan to leave your bike with us for a day.
Why Consider Chain Waxing for Your Bike?
-
Smoother, Faster Rides with Less Friction
Immersion chain waxing significantly reduces drivetrain friction—saving between 2 to 8 watts of riding power compared to conventional lubes. -
Extended Drivetrain Life & Lower Long-Term Cost
Hot‑waxed chains wear much more slowly than oiled chains. In real‑world testing, a waxed chain remains far from the replacement threshold even after 5,000 miles, whereas traditional lubes can quickly wear out multiple chains and cassettes. -
Cleaner Bikes and Cleaner Hands
Because wax is a “dry” lubricant, it doesn’t attract gunk. No more greasy chains, black “tattoo” stains on your legs, or messy fingerprints during rides or bike cleaning. Just a simple wipe-down is all that’s needed. This isn’t a do it once and forget it process. After the initial cleaning and waxing, maintenance is easy: just wipe clean and/or top off with wax-compatible drips.
-
Quieter and More Refined Riding Experience
Waxed chains offer an ultra-quiet ride and incredibly smooth shifting.
Why It’s Not for Everyone (And Why That’s Okay)
-
Initial Effort & Equipment
The process requires full chain removal, careful degreasing, and heating wax. It’s more involved than just applying wet lube. It’s ideal to do with a new chain and cassette but old once can be stripped using our Ultrasonic Cleaner for a strong initial application. We recommend new chain quick links when taking your chain off as well.

Well, we’ve got good news! At Bike Tech, we love helping great bikes find new homes. If you’ve got something quality you’re not using, bring it by or fill out this form! Whether you’re looking to sell it or trade it in toward something shiny and new, we’re here to help. And hey, if you’re on the hunt for a solid used bike, check out what we’ve got in stock—it changes all the time. Let’s make sure those bikes see some action instead of collecting cobwebs!
