Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays Friends!

It’s already been a busy month, despite the rain. We’re building bikes, storing some items for ole Santa Claus, and working on repairs and upgrades. With the weather the way it is, now is an excellent time for some deep bike maintenance. Need your suspension serviced (yes is the answer)? Considering an overhaul where we strip your bike down to the frame and replace/repack all bearings? Bleed your brakes? Install new cables & housing? Now is the time. Schedule an appointment online or just send us a text (478-741-8356). We’ll get you back on the road/trail as quickly as we can.

For any parents or folks with kids who have a bike on their Christmas list, we’re back in a situation of short supply. We still have youth bikes in stock and more are arriving each week, but moving faster than we anticipated. If you need us to order something, reach out this week! If you have questions or need advice on sizing, reach out, we are thrilled to help.

The Bike Tech team is grateful for you and is ready to help keep you riding. New parts and accessories arrive weekly, so if you’re looking for something specific, check with us first (we’re always happy to help with special orders).

Before we wrap up, don’t forget: follow along on FacebookInstagram, and Strava, and don’t miss our Crank to Coffee ride every Saturday. Whether it’s in the shop or on the trail, thanks for being part of the Bike Tech crew.

Huge thanks to Don (and everyone else!) who takes the time to share their experience. Your words mean the world to us — and they help other riders find their way to the shop, too.

Peloton & Indoor Bike Maintenance: A Quick Guide from the Shop

As the weather cools down and more riders shift to indoor miles, it’s a great time to give your Peloton or indoor trainer setup a little attention. Indoor bikes live in a unique environment where sweat, dust, and repetitive use can cause issues you won’t see outdoors. A few simple habits can keep your setup smooth, quiet, and comfortable all winter long.

One of the biggest things you can do is wipe your bike down after each ride. Sweat is surprisingly corrosive and can lead to rusted bolts, sticky adjustment sliders, and fading finishes. Use a soft cloth and a gentle cleaner, and avoid spraying anything directly onto screens or electronics.

Because indoor riding creates steady side-to-side forces, bolts naturally loosen over time. It’s worth checking key hardware once a week (if riding frequently). Make sure your pedals, saddle clamp, handlebar posts, and stabilizers are snug and secure. Everything should feel solid with no wobble.

If you’re riding a road bike on a trainer, your drivetrain needs regular attention. Sweat and dust accumulate fast indoors. Wipe your chain often and add a small amount of lube every few weeks. Chain and cassette wear are real and will impact performance. If you’re on a Peloton, keep the belt cover and flywheel free of dirt and moisture to avoid unnecessary noise.

Comfort becomes especially important during the indoor season, since riders tend to stay seated longer. A well-fitted saddle or a pedal upgrade can make a noticeable difference. For serious road cyclists or triathletes, we often recommend Specialized’s Bridge or Power saddles for indoor use because they offer consistent support. Many riders also prefer Shimano SPD pedals (2-bolt, not 3-bolt) indoors for the easier walkability and solid platform. For our Peloton riders, many prefer the Specialized, Jamis & Selle Royal saddles we stock, along with the Shimano Platform pedals (see below). This adds tons of comfort and eliminates the need for an uncomfortable pair of cycling shoes.

Here are a few quick reminders that help with comfort and longevity:
  • Wipe down contact points (bars, seat, posts) after each ride
  • Keep your drivetrain clean and lightly lubricated (not on Peloton’s, as they are belt-drive)
  • Check fit if anything feels off—small adjustments matter indoors
  • Avoid using heavy degreasers or WD-40 on moving parts
If your Peloton or indoor bike needs attention, or if you’re considering upgrading your saddle, pedals, or shoes, stop by Bike Tech. We’ll help keep your winter training smooth, quiet, and enjoyable so you can focus on the ride.
