Happy Almost February from all of us at Bike Tech!

January brought a chill to Middle Georgia—and even a little snow at the bike shop! While we’ve been bundling up and battling FedEx woes with missing shipments, we’re staying optimistic and rolling into 2025 with big plans and community spirit. (BIG shout out to our amazingly patient customers) .

Speaking of community, have you heard about the amazing work U Create Macon is doing? They’re building up the next generation of cyclists, teaching kids the joy of riding, and fostering life skills that go beyond two wheels. If you haven’t checked them out yet, you’re missing out on one of the best parts of our local cycling scene. Let’s support them however we can—whether that’s spreading the word, volunteering, or just cheering them on.

On the topic of helping out, ReCycle Macon is looking for volunteers to continue their incredible mission of providing bikes to those in need. If you want to lend a hand, just hit reply to this email, and we’ll connect you to the right folks. Next work night is in February.

If you’d like to support local charities in our community and want to have a little fun doing it – consider getting tickets for the Macon Civic Club’s Annual Musical Review this weekend. A little bird told us that our shop Surly Big Dummy might make an appearance…

And for all you mountain bikers out there, here’s a quick PSA: Now is the perfect time to have your suspension serviced! Regular maintenance keeps your ride buttery smooth and protects your investment. Plus, nothing beats hitting the trails with a bike that feels as good as new. Schedule an appointment and we’ll take care of the rest.

Here’s to kicking off 2025 with plenty of miles, smiles, and (hopefully) fewer FedEx headaches!

If you don’t already, please follow us on Instagram and Strava and join us for Crank to Coffee each Saturday. We are here for you and hope to see you on the trail or at the shop soon. Thanks for being rad and supporting your local bike shop!

– Bobby, Lu, Jeff & Rod

Big congratulations to Bike Walk Macon on celebrating 10 incredible years of advocacy and impact in our community! To mark this milestone, they’re launching the inaugural Streets for All Festival—a weekend-long celebration of biking and walking that you won’t want to miss! This exciting event will feature a mix of rides, walks, and gatherings, offering the perfect opportunity to explore local people-friendly spaces, connect with the community, and honor Bike Walk Macon’s amazing legacy. Let’s come together to celebrate the progress they’ve made and look forward to even brighter, bikeable, and walkable streets in the future!

One Bike to Rule Them All – Specialized Stumpjumper 15 Review

The Stumpjumper is Specialized’s now ubiquitous do-everything trail bike, with adjustability and adaptability integral to the bike’s character. This year’s update to the 15th iteration of the bike wasn’t some massive overhaul, but more of a refinement, with very similar geometry to the outgoing Stumpjumper EVO, and the introduction of the Genie shock.

Buy online and ship to Bike Tech or reach out if you have questions and want to discuss the perfect Stumpjumper for you.

Mountain Bike/Trail Running Trail – The Pig Trail – 8.4 miles, 525 +/- elevation

Info from OMBA: The first 2.5 miles of the Pig are classic rooty east coast singletrack that goes up and down a ridge.  This section has some great flow, a few small little drops, log overs, and lots of switchbacks.  The next four miles of trail are in an area that was logged a few years ago, and this section has a different feel and character.  There’s not as many short/steep climbs, less roots, and lots of fast sweeping corners.  The trail varies from hard packed clay to loose sandy/gravel mix on top of hardpack.  The last few miles are mostly back up on the ridge.

Trailhead Access: 4730 N Mumford Rd;Macon, GA
